Download SketchUp Materials (SKM) from 3D Warehouse – Free Packs

3Dwarehouse Materials Download

Did you know that you can download SketchUp materials directly from 3D Warehouse? Most people think it’s just for SKP 3D models, but you can actually grab .SKM material files and add them to your own library. This trick works on both Windows and Mac versions of SketchUp, and it’s a great way to build your own SketchUp material pack for free.

Why Download SKM Materials from 3D Warehouse?

When you install SketchUp, you only get a limited set of default materials. But with 3D Warehouse, you can access thousands of free SKM files (SketchUp’s material format). By downloading them, you can:

  • Expand your SketchUp material library without paying for packs.
  • Get realistic textures for wood, concrete, stone, glass, and more.
  • Save time by reusing materials across projects.
  • Download ready-made SketchUp SKM materials in seconds.

Step-by-Step: How to Download SKM Materials from 3D Warehouse

  1. Go to 3D Warehouse and sign in.
  2. Search for the type of material you want (example: wood, marble, brick).

Where to Place SKM Files (Windows & Mac)

Once you download a SketchUp material SKM file, you need to put it in the right folder so SketchUp can find it:

  • Windows: Documents > SketchUp > Materials
  • Mac: Library > Application Support > SketchUp > SketchUp > Materials

You can also create custom folders for categories like “Wood,” “Concrete,” or “Metals.” SketchUp will read them as separate material libraries.

Alternative method for collections (SKP to SKM) :

A second method that works well for collections, and to avoid downloading files one by one,  is to download the Sketchup SKP collection file from 3Dwarehouse (only compatible with versions above 2013 - and works for Windows versions of Sketchup only) and save all SKM files inside that SKP model.
  1.  Open the SKP file you downloaded example of wood collection
  2.  In Sketchup open the materials window (B shortcut) and select "In Model" from the drop-down list
  3. Sketchup materials window - In model materials

  4. Click the Details button > Save the entire collection in any desired location (Open or create a new folder), all SKM materials will be saved to that location and the new materials folder will show up in the drop-down list anytime you open Sketchup.
